Lingfield footballer Dan Burgess is hosting an charity football match at Lingfield Football Club this Sunday in support of his girlfriend who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) just last year.
Dan , who plays at Lingfield FC in his spare time, is hoping to raise more than £3,500 for the MS Society through his celebrity match, kicking off on Sunday at 2:30pm. The two teams will be made up of friends, family and a host of celebrity supporters, including former pro footballer Nicky Forster and other local ex-professional footballers. Linda Lambert from Storage Hunters UK will be stepping up as auctioneer for the day.
Dan works (25) in sales for a magazine and lives with his girlfriend Amy Stokes, 26, in Crawley. He says he hopes the fundraiser will raise awareness of MS as well as vital funds to help support other families affected by the condition:
Amy first started experiencing MS symptoms in the summer of 2015. She lost her hearing and had such bad double vision she could hardly function for the room spinning. She says the sickness was so bad she visited the GP
Amy still works full time as an admin manager for a fleet risk management company, but at times she feels like the fatigue is too extreme to overcome. Dan helps her with every day chores, sometimes even getting dressed. She says it’s meant the world to her to have Dan put on such an exciting fundraiser for the MS community.
Nicky Turner, area fundraiser at the MS Society, said: “The MS Charity Cup is going to be a fantastic day out with an awe-inspiring and exciting line-up of players on both teams. It cannot fail to be a great match, and with a bouncy castle, a pie and mash van, a full bar in the Clubhouse, a raffle and an auction, there is something for everyone!”
